Research
My research focuses on the practical application of career assistance in peoples' lives. People spend an enormous amount of time in their jobs and being affected by issues of work. My research seeks to explain how they can engage career, work, and their overall lives more effectively. I hope that the work I do can inform career counselors how to better work with clients from college students, unemployed adults, active military & veterans, offenders, working community members, and those dealing with various mental illnesses.
Specifically, my program of research focuses on career interests, career assessment, career decision-making, career thinking, and career self efficacy. Most of this work is filtered through the perspective of Holland's RIASEC theory and the Cognitive Information Processing Approach, which are also the perspectives from which I train our graduate students to practice.
